I started reading this book on the plane, and couldn't put it down until I'd finished it in bed that night. That's roughly 12 hours of reading, with a quick break to claim my suitcase. So, compulsively readable? Yes. Flawed? For sure. But it's worth a lot to me that I enjoyed it so much while I was reading it. A lot of books grow on me after the fact, but it was nice to be so wrapped up in the middle of it. Next time, hopefully more cohesion, fewer dog details, a clearer understanding of how and why things are happening, and fewer completely freakish events (blinding by quicklime?), but I'd be interested to read his next novel.
