I listened to this on audio, and I thought the narrators (one for Miss Skeeter, one for Abilene) did an excellent job with their characters. The quality of the actors may have lent Stockett's characters more authenticity than the writing merits. I found that the book was far less uncomfortable than it probably should be if it's going to deal honestly with the racial situation in the '50s deep South. I also found the the ending very pat and cozy. Nice to listen to, but overall unsatisfying.
